C Thomas Cooney has been taking pictures since his childhood starting with a pin hole camera he made from a National Geographic World. His father's enthusiasm and love for photography inspired him as a child and continues to inspire him today. C Thomas’s photography was merely a hobby until a trip to New Orleans in 2004. Upon his return, the images that he captured and the positive response from friends lead him to pursue a professional career.
The joy C Thomas finds in photography is the challenge to bring a subject to life. He especially enjoys hearing people's points of view on any subjects in his work.
Cemeteries are often a favorite subject in C Thomas’s work because of the beauty he finds in them. He thinks it is unfortunate how they are often overlooked because of the stigma. His favorite cemeteries are located in New Orleans.
Though C Thomas enjoys cemeteries he also has a great love for lighthouses which he attributes to his father. He plans to travel much of the west coast to photograph them in all types of weather.
Though born and raised in California, C Thomas now resides near Seattle, not far from where his father grew up in the southern part of Washington state.
